To fully understand the concept of the spatial and material system we need to understand the concept of space by definition space is a continuous area or expanse which is free, available, or unoccupied. Meaning that space is the nothingness in between mass. Space can be anywhere, both in or outside and it is not only created by man-made objects such as walls and columns but can also be created by other natural shapes and defined spaces.
Now that we understand the concept of space a little better we can dive into what Spatial systems and material Systems are. The spatial system consists of the composition and distribution of spaces and can often vary in size and shapes meanwhile the material system focuses on the surroundings and how it affects the space such as lighting, land, and time.
When designing any space these two systems are to work hand by hand since they are the key to good designed structures and spaces.
