THERME VALS
Therme Vals is a beautiful structure built by architect Peter Zumthor as a spa extension for the 7132 hotel located in Switzerland. In only 3 (1993-1994) impressive years Val’s managed to create a beautiful symmetric structure which not only blends into the beautiful valleys of Switzerland but also enhances its surroundings and rural setting. This 58 meter-long structure is built in thin slabs of monochromatic gray stones is the home to 2 main pools and 10+ separate private bathrooms of hot spring water. Designed and very meticulously built to fit like cubes of Tetrix THERME Vals is divided into 15 cubes which not only are they different sizes but they also don’t touch at any point, all of them standing at 8 minuscule centimeters away from each other allowing natural lighting to pass through. In its very early stages of the design, Zumthor already had a very strong image of what he wanted, unlike many architects that just start with an idea. maybe that’s what’s behind this amazing structure which allows us to experience such amazing sensation with every room and are of this incredible structure.
Fun fact: Therme Vals actually has no doors.
POMPIDOU CENTER
At some point in our lives, we have heard the say of Less is more and the Pompidou center it’s a true representation of it. Pompidou is a structure created in Paris, France which has been generously and well deserved awarded. The center is recognized for its unusual structure, the absence of interior design and its panoramic view. Pompidou center features outside escalator which is also the only entrance to each story of the bulging since they’re no elevators nor walls. While some consider it boring or plain others understand that the true value of its architecture its the exterior which features a very peculiar shape of beams and it’s covered in glass that reflects and absorbs the beautiful city of Paris. All of these features conjoined to form an amazing industrialized look.
Fun fact: Pompidou Center features a museum of urban art
WHAT IS DESIGN?
As we may already perceivde by the past buildings, designing is very different for every artist. But how do you learn how to design? Let’s start off with what is designing in the first place.
Designis the process in which an object turns into reality and gains meaning.
But design can be many things and can also be interpreted in many ways, so to truly understand the concept of design you must focus on some key concepts to help you create some balance. I'll list some them bellow.
Feeling - reason
Intuition - rationality
Passion - objectivity
Action - though
Design in architecture is to find that common ground in between functionality and aesthetics which is mainly what differences are from another type of artist.
